Power bank explosions reported on Indian trains
Multiple incidents involving exploding power banks have been reported on trains in India, raising safety concerns regarding electronic devices during travel.
In one instance, a power bank exploded in an AC coach of the Mumbai-Howrah Mail near Bandamunda station in the Chakradharpur division. The explosion caused smoke to fill the B-3 coach, triggering the fire alarm. Following the incident, railway officials announced that charging points in coaches will be turned off at night to enhance passenger safety.
In a separate incident, a power bank exploded inside a passenger's bag in a women's compartment of a Mumbai suburban local train. The blast caused panic among passengers, leading them to pull the emergency chain and stop the train at Ghatkopar station. Passengers managed to extinguish the fire by throwing the bag out of the coach and using water, preventing further spread. No injuries were reported in this incident.
