Power outage disrupts electricity for 40,000 customers in Alicante, Spain

Two separate failures on the same day caused brief electricity cuts in the city of Alicante, affecting roughly 40,000 customers. The first incident, at the Rabassa sub‑station transformer, knocked out power for about 30,000 clients at 14:40; Iberdrola redirected supply and restored service for 70 % of those users within seven minutes, with full restoration completed in 17 minutes. A second fault on a line linked to the Palmeral sub‑station occurred at 15:15, impacting an additional 10,000 customers; 98 % of those were back online after seven minutes and total service was restored in about thirty minutes. No injuries or significant property damage were reported.

Iberdrola said investigations into the causes of the incidents are ongoing, but the rapid response prevented prolonged outages for the affected neighborhoods.
