Power outage halts trains across England's Midlands and North West
An electricity supply failure at a communications centre caused a major rail disruption in England’s Midlands and north‑west regions. National Rail reported that services operated by Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, London Northwestern, Northern, TransPennine Express and Transport for Wales were affected, with cancellations, delays and revised timetables expected until the end of the day. Passengers were advised not to travel and to allow extra time or seek alternative routes.
The incident impacted the Greater Manchester area as well as the broader Midlands and north‑west, prompting train operator Northern to urge customers to avoid travel where possible.
