Power outages disrupt services in Venezuela and Colombia

Residents and businesses in different regions are reporting significant disruptions due to ongoing electricity shortages.

In Maturín, Venezuela, inhabitants report daily blackouts lasting between six and ten hours. Despite regional government announcements suggesting that rationing would be reduced to three hours in certain areas, residents claim the outages remain extensive. These power failures are affecting basic services and causing significant discomfort due to high temperatures, with thermal sensations reaching up to 38°C.

In Colombia, the Tayrona corridor along the Troncal del Caribe has faced power failures for more than three consecutive days. The outages are impacting hotels, restaurants, and local businesses during a peak tourist season. Business owners have expressed concern over the loss of food due to broken cold chains and difficulties maintaining water treatment systems and other essential equipment.
