Brazil utility companies face outages, fines, and accidents

Various utility companies in Brazil are managing diverse electrical service issues, ranging from infrastructure failures and weather damage to regulatory penalties and community programs.

In Mato Grosso, Procon Municipal de Cuiabá fined Energisa Mato Grosso approximately R$ 1.6 million due to service failures, abusive billing, and supply interruptions. Meanwhile, in Xapuri, Energisa reported that transformer overloads caused by high temperatures led to power outages, which have since been resolved.

In the northern and central regions, weather and maintenance are driving disruptions. Storms in the Palmital region caused damage to the electrical network, while scheduled maintenance by Âmbar Energia and Equatorial Goiás will result in temporary outages in Manaus, Goiânia, and Anápolis. In Rondon do Pará, Equatorial Pará restored power following a substation incident that may have been caused by third-party interference.

Tragically, electrical accidents in Pará resulted in four deaths: three workers were electrocuted during maintenance in Cametá, and one man died in Capanema after contacting a wire downed by a tree. On a positive note, Energisa is conducting a lightbulb exchange program in Sergipe to promote energy efficiency and sustainability.
