Power outages reported in Vilafranca del Penedès and Barcelona

Residents and business owners in Vilafranca del Penedès are expressing indignation following two significant power outages within a two-week period. Local businesses, including a pharmacy and a butcher shop, have reported economic losses and the potential loss of perishable goods. While the electricity distributor attributed the latest outage to a phase fault, workers were deployed to the Palma street area to address the complex repair.

In Barcelona, the City Council has cut the electricity supply to a portion of the Plaza de Catalunya, where a large encampment of people seeking housing has been situated for three weeks. The municipal government justifies the action based on a fire department report alleging that irregular connections to the grid posed an ‘imminent risk’ to safety. Camp organizers, however, contend that the blackout is a tactic intended to force them to leave the area.
