Power resilience becomes critical for Philippine MSMEs

Power reliability is emerging as a critical business-continuity concern for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Philippines. As businesses increasingly rely on digital infrastructure—including point-of-sale terminals, routers, servers, and CCTV systems—even brief power interruptions or voltage fluctuations can lead to lost revenue, corrupted data, or damaged hardware.

Schneider Electric Philippines notes that disruptions are becoming more frequent due to weather-related disturbances during the rainy season and increased grid strain from demand surges. Harold Lim, country solutions head of Schneider Electric Philippines, stated that because digital operations are now central to business models, power resilience has shifted from a mere contingency measure to a competitive advantage.

An assessment by the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities indicated that while power supply may be sufficient, operating reserves remain thin due to plant outages and rising demand. To mitigate these risks, Schneider Electric is promoting its APC Smart-UPS On-Line technology, which uses double-conversion to provide stable, conditioned power to sensitive digital equipment.
