Powerhouse Parramatta museum to open on November 7

Powerhouse Parramatta is scheduled to officially open to the public on Saturday, November 7. The $915 million cultural infrastructure project, located along the Parramatta River, is being described by the government as a significant development for the region, comparable in importance to the Sydney Opera House.

The museum's opening program will feature five exhibitions, most of which will be free to the public. One major exhibition, ‘Task Eternal’, will explore the history of international aviation and space exploration in partnership with the British Museum and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. This exhibition will include over 600 objects, such as a Qantas Avro 504k aircraft and a rocket engine used during the Apollo missions.

Another featured exhibition, ‘The Mall’, will examine the cultural significance and evolution of shopping centres, focusing on Western Sydney. NSW Arts Minister John Graham stated that the museum is intended to transform Parramatta by linking the city centre with the riverfront.
