Powerman Zofingen announces global expansion and registration boom

The Powerman Zofingen organizing committee has announced significant developments for the upcoming duathlon world championship scheduled for September 5 and 6, 2026. The event is experiencing a surge in popularity, with over 700 athletes registered, marking a 15 percent increase compared to the previous year. The participant pool features increased international diversity, including athletes from Morocco, Zimbabwe, and Qatar.

Strategic plans are underway to launch a new Duathlon World Series by 2028, modeled after the World Triathlon Series. The committee has also applied to host the World Cup finals and World Championships for 2027 and 2028, with a decision expected from the World Triathlon Executive Board in late September.

Notable individual highlights include 83-year-old Paul Thelen, who is set to be the oldest participant competing in the long-distance format, which consists of 10 km running, 150 km cycling, and 30 km running.
