Powys County Council secures £3 million for residents and unveils modular housing plan

Powys County Council’s Money Advice Team secured almost £3 million for households in financial need for the 2025‑26 year. The council’s annual report also highlighted a 60 % reduction in waiting lists for domiciliary care, energy‑efficiency upgrades to more than 1,000 properties, practical help for 133 families, over 93,000 people registered on My Powys Account, 8,600 energy measures for private homes, employment support for 96 residents, assistance to 243 businesses, completion of 26 digital projects and solar installations at 17 council sites. While celebrating these achievements, the report noted ongoing financial pressure, rising demand for services and workforce capacity challenges.

In parallel, the council is moving ahead with a modular housing scheme at County Hall in Llandrindod Wells. The development will provide self‑contained temporary homes to give stable, private accommodation for people in a housing crisis, currently supporting 31 households in emergency housing. The project is intended to cut costly emergency placements, aid younger people who are “sofa‑surfing,” and support the council’s Tackling Poverty transformation programme, according to Deputy Leader Matthew Dorrance.
