Poznań literary awards celebrate authors and rename regional library after Stanisław Barańczak

On 12 May a gala at the Marshal’s Office in Poznań presented the third edition of the Literacka Nagroda Wielkopolskich Czytelników. The adult‑category prize went to Mikołaj Grynberg for his essay collection “Rok, w którym nie umarłem”, and the children‑category prize was awarded to Katarzyna Wasilkowska for “Złodziejka”. The ceremony also announced that the Regional Public Library and Cultural Animation Centre will be renamed Biblioteka Wielkopolska im. Stanisława Barańczaka, honoring the celebrated poet and marking 2026 as the year of Barańczak in the region.

A second event, the Poznańska Nagroda Literacka, will hold its gala on 22 May. Dorota Masłowska has been named laureate of the Adam Mickiewicz Award, the youngest recipient in the prize’s history. The award highlights a wide range of literary contributions, from poetry and prose to translation and criticism, and underscores the ongoing role of literature in interpreting contemporary Polish society.
