Poznań prosecutors charge Lupo company owners after fatal tenement fire
Prosecutors in Poznań have brought criminal charges against Adam H. and Agnieszka W. -H., representatives of the company Lupo, following a fatal tenement fire in August 2024. The investigation alleges that the pair conducted production and storage activities at a battery repair shop on Kraszewskiego Street in violation of fire safety regulations.
The fire, which occurred on the night of August 24–25, led to an explosion and the subsequent collapse of the building. The disaster resulted in the deaths of two firefighters and left 11 other firefighters and three civilians injured.
According to investigators, the company's operations were characterized by negligence; former employees reported that small fires involving batteries were a frequent occurrence that were often handled with sand rather than being reported. The suspects have denied the charges and refused to provide statements. They face potential prison sentences ranging from six months to eight years.
