Poznań to host 21st UISPP World Congress in 2026

Adam Mickiewicz University is hosting the 21st World Congress of the International Union of Prehistoric and Protohistoric Sciences (UISPP 2026) in Poznań, Poland. Running from August 31 to September 4, 2026, this marks the first time the congress is being held in Poland.

The event is expected to draw approximately 800 international participants. Under the theme “Archaeology in Motion: Past Lessons, Future Responsibilities,” the congress focuses on the evolution of archaeological methods and the field's public responsibilities. The program includes keynote addresses, such as one by archaeologist Barbara Barich from Sapienza University of Rome, alongside plenary lectures and specialist commission meetings.

The congress serves as a global platform for researchers to compare findings across different regions and time periods, highlighting how modern techniques—including laboratory analysis, digital documentation, and environmental science—are transforming the study of prehistoric and protohistoric societies.
