Poland's Ministry of Agriculture clarifies poultry biosecurity rules
The Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has clarified legal ambiguities regarding the relationship between biosecurity requirements and organic poultry farming standards. Following a request from the National Council of Agricultural Chambers, the Ministry addressed concerns about whether mandatory flock isolation during epizootic threats violates organic production rules.
The Ministry stated that biosecurity measures intended to combat disease are considered overriding requirements. Consequently, temporary confinement of poultry to prevent the spread of viruses does not constitute a breach of organic welfare standards or a loss of organic certification, as these sanitary restrictions are legally prioritized under both national and EU health regulations.
