Poznań Zoo welcomes new pair of margay ocelots

Poznań Zoo announced the arrival of a new pair of margay ocelots (Leopardus wiedii). The female, named Fibi, came from a Welsh zoo in March, and the male joined her in August. The zoo hopes the pair will breed, replacing the older female, Mimi, which was transferred to the Děčín Zoo in the Czech Republic.

Margays are small, arboreal cats native to the forests of Central and South America, ranging from Mexico to Argentina. They are noted for their ability to descend trees head‑first and are classified as a threatened species due to habitat loss and historic fur hunting. The zoo highlighted the species’ unique climbing skills and its conservation status.
