Pozzuoli: 8 arrested after football fan critically injured in attack

Eight people, including five adults and three minors, have been arrested following violent clashes between football supporters in Pozzuoli, Italy. The unrest occurred after an Eccellenza league match between Puteolana and Portici at the Domenico Conte stadium.

A 34-year-old Portici supporter, Mario Spedaliere, was critically injured after being struck in the head with a wooden club or baseball bat. He underwent emergency neurosurgery for a cerebral hemorrhage and skull fracture and remains in critical condition in intensive care at the Santa Maria delle Grazie hospital.

A 19-year-old suspect has confessed to delivering the blow and has been charged with aggravated assault and extremely serious injuries. Investigators are using surveillance footage to identify other participants in the brawl, which involved approximately 40 individuals. The Prefect of Naples has condemned the violence, stating it is incompatible with the values of sport.
