Pozzuoli merchants announce closures amid port reopening efforts

In Pozzuoli, local merchants have announced plans to close their businesses on October 8 to support a demonstration in Rome. Spokesperson Antonio Musto stated that the closure serves as a sign of unity for the community, which is facing economic hardship and challenges caused by bradyseism (ground movement).

Simultaneously, Pozzuoli Mayor Luigi Manzoni has signed a new ordinance to facilitate the reopening of the local port. The measure revokes previous restrictions that prevented heavy vehicles from accessing the area. This change allows vehicles over 3.5 tons and 8 meters in length, as well as public transport and tourist buses, to transit through several key streets and the Sacchini viaduct. This move is intended to restore normal freight transport operations to Ischia and Procida, though a speed limit of 10 kilometers per hour remains in place.
