PP Divya seeks CPI(M) review amid disciplinary action and probes

Former Kannur District Panchayat president P. P. Divya has written to the CPI(M) central leadership requesting a review of disciplinary actions taken against her. Divya, who was demoted from the Kannur district committee to the Irinave branch, has alleged discriminatory treatment and claimed she is being barred from working at the party’s Kannur district centre by district secretary P. K. Shyamala.

Divya’s political standing has faced significant pressure following the death of Additional District Magistrate K. Naveen Babu in October 2024. In addition to party sanctions, the Kerala government has announced a Vigilance probe into Divya’s tenure as panchayat president from 2020 to 2025. This investigation focuses on allegations regarding the awarding of contracts and the involvement of a private company.

CPI(M) General Secretary M. A. Baby confirmed receipt of her letter and stated that the matter could be discussed following a telephone conversation with Divya. The developments suggest internal friction within the party regarding her reinstatement and the ongoing legal scrutiny surrounding her former administrative role.
