PPC completes Polish renewable energy deal as Swiss glaciers face rapid melt
Public Power Corporation (PPC) has finalized the acquisition of a 277.3 MW renewable energy portfolio in Poland from EDP. The deal includes 175.4 MW of operational assets, consisting of 130.5 MW of wind farms in Ilza, Tomaszow, and Poturzyn, and 44.9 MW of solar parks in Pakoslaw and Recz. Additionally, the portfolio contains two solar projects under development totaling 101.9 MW, expected to begin operations in 2029 using cable pooling technology.
Separately, a report from the Swiss glacier monitoring network GLAMOS reveals that Swiss glaciers have lost nearly 20% of their volume over the last five years. The current year is described as catastrophic, with a 5.5% volume loss following a record-breaking hot summer and low snowfall. Data indicates that melting is accelerating, with temperature increases in Switzerland doubling the global average.
