PPC Group acquires 57.5 MW Hungarian solar plant and secures battery option

Greek utility PPC Group, through its subsidiary PPC Renewables, has purchased an operating 57.5 MW photovoltaic plant near Királyegyházá in southern Hungary from the Greenvolt Group. The deal also grants PPC an option to acquire a neighbouring 49 MW battery energy‑storage project with a four‑hour duration. The solar facility, commissioned in July 2024, benefits from a 25‑year government‑backed fixed‑price support contract and is expected to operate for more than 30 years. The acquisition marks PPC’s first renewable‑energy investment in Hungary and is part of its 2026‑2030 strategic plan that targets roughly €24 billion of spending and a near‑doubling of its generation capacity across Central and South‑East Europe.

The battery option would enable PPC to store excess midday solar output for higher‑value evening dispatch, addressing growing intraday price spreads in the Hungarian market. Greenvolt is backed by investment firm KKR, underscoring the broader trend of portfolio recycling among international renewable investors.
