PPC S.A. to develop mega Data Center in Western Macedonia with Amazon

PPC S.A. (DEI) is moving forward with plans to develop a mega Data Center in Western Macedonia, Greece. A definitive agreement with Amazon is expected to be signed by March 2027, paving the way for the construction of a 300 MW facility at the former Agios Dimitrios lignite power plant.

Site preparation is set to begin shortly, involving the decommissioning of retired lignite unit infrastructure, such as cooling towers, to make room for the data center and supporting projects like pumped-storage units. While the initial phase aims for a 300 MW capacity, there are plans to eventually upgrade the center to 1 GW.

The project is intended to be operational by the end of 2028. The collaboration has already attracted interest from three additional hyperscalers, positioning Greece as a potential regional hub for digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence by leveraging PPC's land availability and energy support capabilities.
