PPG launches bio-based Teslin Envos synthetic paper

PPG has announced the launch of Teslin Envos, a new synthetic paper substrate designed for secure credentials such as passports, government IDs, and RFID labels. The material is engineered with 30 percent bio-based content and is reported to provide up to a 25 percent reduction in cradle-to-gate carbon footprint compared to the standard Teslin SP1000 substrate.

In addition to sustainability improvements, the new substrate offers enhanced physical properties, including improved brightness, tear and puncture resistance, tensile strength, and flexibility. The product utilizes the company’s existing microporous technology and is compatible with current printing and finishing processes, allowing for carbon reduction without requiring process adjustments from manufacturers.
