Prabang cryptocurrency exchange suffers 100 million won hacking loss
Cryptocurrency exchange Prabang has suspended its services following a hacking incident that resulted in the theft of approximately 100 million won in assets. The exchange detected abnormal withdrawals from its hot wallet on October 24 and subsequently identified security vulnerabilities during an emergency response inspection.
Prabang has stated that it intends to compensate all affected users using the company’s own assets to ensure user protection. This incident follows a previous security breach at the exchange on October 2, which involved the unauthorized access and leakage of personal information for approximately 200 users.
The breach occurs amid a series of security incidents within the South Korean virtual asset sector, including recent data leaks at Bithumb and Streamity (the operator of Gopax). In response, the Financial Services Commission, the Financial Supervisory Service, and the Digital Asset Exchange Alliance have initiated emergency inspections and on-site investigations to determine the causes and ensure consumer protection measures are implemented.
