Prabowo orders revitalization of over 200 Indonesian museums

President Prabowo Subianto has directed the Ministry of Culture to accelerate the revitalization and reorganization of more than 200 museums and other cultural assets across Indonesia throughout 2026. This initiative includes cultural sites such as palaces, fortresses, and heritage landmarks.

To enhance the appeal of these sites, the government aims to move beyond physical building repairs. The plan involves strengthening historical narratives, improving exhibition flows, and utilizing digital technology to create interactive experiences, particularly to engage younger generations. Additionally, the program seeks to improve human resource capacity in managing cultural sites to support the development of cultural, historical, and religious tourism.

In a related event marking Indonesian Museum Day on October 12, President Prabowo visited the Museum Nasional Indonesia (Museum Gajah) in Jakarta alongside Minister of Culture Fadli Zon and several school children to view prehistoric and ancient collections.
