Prabowo orders forest enforcement and SOE restructuring
President Prabowo Subianto has issued directives to accelerate two major national initiatives: the enforcement of forest area regulations and the restructuring of state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
Regarding environmental governance, the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force (Satgas PKH), led by Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, reported violations including illegal mining. President Prabowo has ordered that law enforcement against these violations be conducted with strict professionalism, transparency, and accountability. The government plans to announce the results of these enforcement actions and associated administrative fines in the second week of September 2026.
In the economic sector, the President is pushing for accelerated downstreaming to increase the value of domestic natural resources. Simultaneously, a major restructuring of SOEs is underway to improve efficiency and professionalism. To date, 290 SOEs have been closed, resulting in state budget savings of Rp50 trillion. The government aims to close at least 700 more SOEs by the end of December 2026, a move projected to generate total budget efficiencies of up to Rp100 trillion.
