Prabowo Subianto plans to increase LCM and LCVP vessel procurement

President Prabowo Subianto has announced plans to increase the procurement of Landing Craft Mechanized (LCM) and Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel (LCVP) vessels for the Indonesian Navy. The decision aims to improve disaster relief capabilities across Indonesia’s many small islands.

During a limited meeting at the Merdeka Palace regarding earthquake disaster management in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), the President emphasized that these vessels are essential for delivering personnel and aid to remote areas during emergencies. The initiative follows a request from NTT Governor Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena and further technical input from Rear Admiral Joni Sudianto, Commander of the Navy Regional Command (Kodaeral) VII, who noted the need for patrol vessels to be stationed in Kupang rather than Surabaya to ensure rapid response times.
