Prabowo urges Indonesian universities to boost shipbuilding

President Prabowo Subianto instructed Indonesian universities to develop research and technology that will strengthen the national shipbuilding sector. The directive was conveyed by Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Brian Yuliarto after a closed‑door meeting at the presidential complex in Jakarta.

The government aims to partner universities with state shipyard PT PAL Indonesia to produce vessels needed for passenger transport, logistics and inter‑island connectivity across the archipelago, create jobs and reduce reliance on foreign shipbuilding. Specific targets were not disclosed, but the focus is on applied research, innovation and technology transfer to make the domestic shipbuilding industry self‑sufficient.
