Practical household tips for gardening and cleaning

Gardening expert Simon Akeroyd suggests using boiling water as a simple and inexpensive method to eliminate weeds, particularly those growing in terrace cracks. While many people recommend vinegar or salt-based solutions, Akeroyd notes that these can damage surrounding lawns and plants. Furthermore, topical treatments like vinegar may only destroy leaves while allowing the roots to survive and regrow.

For household maintenance, yellow stains on pillows caused by sweat, sebum, or humidity can be treated using common kitchen ingredients. One effective method involves soaking pillows overnight in a solution of five tablespoons of baking soda dissolved in five liters of warm water. Other options include using acidic substances like lemon juice or vinegar, or applying a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to target organic deposits.
