Practical Magic 2 earns $46 million in global box office debut
Practical Magic 2, the sequel to the 1998 cult classic, has debuted with a global weekend tally of $46 million. The film earned $30 million from 4,146 American theaters, a figure that sits at the lower end of expectations. International markets contributed $16 million from 77 territories.
Despite the box office performance, there is a notable divide between critical and audience reception. The film holds a 36% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but has garnered high audience approval, including a “B+” CinemaScore and a 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The production, directed by Susanne Bier, carries a substantial $75 million budget.
Set 25 years after the original, the story follows the daughters of Sally and Gillian Owens as they uncover family secrets and attempt to break a long-standing generational curse. The cast features returning stars Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, alongside Joey King, Maisie Williams, Dianne Wiest, and Stockard Channing.
