Practical Magic 2 receives limited theatrical re-release
Cinemark Theaters has announced a limited one-weekend theatrical re-release of Practical Magic 2, beginning Friday, October 30. The engagement is scheduled to take place just before Halloween, offering fans a chance to view the film on the big screen.
Directed by Susanne Bier, the sequel stars Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, with Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing reprising their roles. While the film received a 36% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, it maintained a 90% audience score.
Despite the limited re-release, the film's initial performance has been noted as underwhelming. It earned approximately $100 million globally against a $75 million production budget, a figure that may result in a net loss once advertising costs are factored in. This performance is part of a broader trend in Hollywood where recent sequels, such as Independence Day 2 and various recent franchise continuations, have struggled to meet financial expectations or replicate the unique qualities of their predecessors.
