Prado and Rijksmuseum partner to highlight women in art

The Museo del Prado and the Rijksmuseum have formed a strategic alliance to highlight the role of women in art history. This partnership focuses on the shared heritage of Spain and the Netherlands, specifically examining the contributions of women, patrons, and other key figures during the Habsburg era.

A central component of this cooperation is an international research fellowship set to launch in 2027. The program will involve analyzing the collections of both institutions to uncover the impact of women in art. The findings from this research are intended to inform future museum projects and will culminate in a major exhibition at the Rijksmuseum in 2029.

This collaboration builds upon existing individual efforts, such as the Prado’s ‘El Prado en femenino’ program and the Rijksmuseum’s ‘Women of the Rijksmuseum’ project, both of which aim to bring long-overlooked female artists into the spotlight.
