Pradyot Debbarma urges Tripura Governor to clear pending TTAADC bills

Pradyot Debbarma, founder of the Tipra Motha Party, met with Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu to urge the clearance of numerous bills passed by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

Debbarma reported that approximately 18 bills passed by the council since 2007 remain pending with the state Tribal Welfare Department. These legislative delays affect critical areas including land reforms in tribal council territories, customary laws, recruitment policies, and administrative reforms. The TTAADC operates under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, granting it legislative and administrative authority over specific tribal regions, but its passed bills require constitutional assent to become law.

Debbarma noted that the inability to implement these decisions impacts the council's ability to serve its mandate. He previously sought intervention from the Supreme Court regarding the legislative backlog. The meeting also addressed the protection of the council's administrative powers and the necessity of implementing approved laws without unnecessary delay.
