Praemium Imperiale to announce 37th edition winners in Rome
The 37th edition of the Praemium Imperiale, one of the world's most prestigious international art awards, will announce its winners on September 8. The announcement will take place in Rome, held simultaneously with events in Tokyo, Berlin, London, New York, and Paris.
The awards recognize excellence across five distinct fields: painting, sculpture, architecture, music, and theater/cinema. In addition to the main winners, the ceremony will reveal the recipient of the Praemium Imperiale 2026 Scholarship for Young Artists.
Established in 1988 by the Japan Art Association, the prize was founded on the vision of Prince Nobuhito Takamatsu. He believed that Japan could contribute to global peace through the arts, viewing art as a space where cultural differences can meet.
