Prague advances Metro D project with new tunnel work and station construction

Construction of Prague's Metro D line has entered a key phase. Work between Olbrachtova and Nové Dvory will begin in the first quarter of 2027, with tunnel boring expected to last about six months. Two German Herrenknecht tunnel‑boring machines were ordered for the 9.6 km stretch, of which 2.6 km will be in tunnels and 1.05 km inside the new Nové Dvory station.

The city signed a roughly 30 billion CZK contract with the Subterra consortium in April, following delays caused by antimonopoly authority reviews. The contract covers the construction of three stations—Nádraží Krč, Nemocnice Krč and Nové Dvory—plus associated vestibules, escalator tunnels and ventilation shafts. The line is planned to operate driverlessly, with the first section from Pankráce to Nové Dvory expected to open in the second half of 2032, and further extensions toward Písnice and the city centre under discussion. The project is billed as one of the most significant transport investments in the Czech Republic, aimed at improving southern Prague’s accessibility, reducing congestion and supporting future urban development.
