Prague advances tram line and square redesigns in citywide overhaul

Prague is rolling out a new tram line to Wenceslas Square, adding underground rain‑water storage, green benches and a redesigned public space to ease congestion and link the historic centre with Vinohrady. The project also includes the reconstruction of the Savarin Palace courtyard, a new office‑residential complex replacing the former Transgas building, and extensive redevelopment plans for the Žižkov freight area, Florenc district and the Rohanský ostrov island, many slated for completion by the late 2020s.

In the Vršovice neighbourhood, Prague 10 unveiled the winning proposal for Svatopluk Čech Square. The CZK 300 million design by local studio ra15 centres on greenery, a cooling water feature, a café, public restrooms and a park‑manager facility, aiming to make the square greener, cooler and more welcoming while preserving the surrounding functionalist architecture. The plan will undergo further expert review and public consultation before final approval.
