Prague Airport taxi companies fined for cartel agreement

The Czech Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS) has issued a final ruling confirming that taxi companies Taxi Praha and Fix operated a cartel at Václav Havel Airport Prague between 2019 and 2021.

According to the antitrust authority, the companies coordinated their business activities, including service offerings, prices for passengers and drivers, and the exchange of sensitive commercial information. The cooperation was extensive, involving the unification of their visual presentations on websites, mobile applications, and vehicle branding to eliminate competition.

As a result of the binding decision, Fix has been fined 7.82 million CZK, a figure reduced from a higher amount due to the use of a settlement procedure. Taxi Praha was fined 950,000 CZK. The airport, which had intended to foster competition through tenders, noted that Uber has been providing official taxi services at the airport since September 2023 under a five-year contract.
