Prague implements new metropolitan plan and Metro D station names

Prague has implemented a new Metropolitan Plan designed to facilitate urban development and accommodate the construction of approximately 350,000 new apartments, primarily on brownfield sites. The plan introduces height regulations and aims to accelerate major infrastructure projects, including the completion of ring roads and high-speed rail lines. While real estate developers have welcomed the move, critics including local associations and some city officials argue the plan may threaten green spaces and favor developers without sufficient focus on civic amenities.

In related transit developments, Prague city officials have finalized the names for several stations on the upcoming Metro D line. The stations formerly known by working titles Náměstí Bratří Synků and Olbrachtova will now be named Nusle and Ryšánka, respectively. Other station names, such as Pankrác, Nádraží Krč, and Libuš, remain unchanged. The first section of Metro D is expected to be operational by the second half of 2032.

Additionally, Prague city councilors have approved an expansion of the year-round ban on amateur pyrotechnics. The ban will now extend to 34 of the city's 57 municipal districts, though exceptions remain for the film and television industry using non-noisy products.
