Prague conducts critical infrastructure protection exercises
Authorities in Prague have conducted a series of security exercises, including the SafeGuard HMP 2026 drill, to test the protection of critical water infrastructure. The exercise focused on the Flora reservoir, a strategic site supplying over 16,000 connection points across several Prague districts. Participating entities included the police, military, firefighters, the Prague City Hall, and Prague Water and Sewerage (PVK).
The drills utilized advanced technology such as drone detection systems, underwater robots, and unmanned ground vehicles to simulate responses to attacks on vital services. Beyond water supplies, recent security activities have also included drills at the central oil reserve tank farm in Nelahozeves to test the protection of national petroleum stocks.
These increasing security measures are driven by heightened threat levels and new legislation requiring entities within twelve sectors—including energy, healthcare, and food production—to maintain resilience plans and undergo regular testing. In Prague, the city is also working with the Czech Red Cross to build a network of crisis volunteers to support these efforts.
