Prague holds over 200 billion CZK in its accounts, a significant surplus that has sparked debate regarding its use ahead of upcoming municipal elections. While city officials argue these funds are reserved for long-term infrastructure projects like the Metro D line and the City Ring road, critics suggest the city has struggled to spend its resources effectively.

Jan Hušbauer, a deputy mayor for Prague 4 and leader of the ANO movement in the city, argues that the wealth of the municipality is not being felt by its residents. He advocates for converting these funds more rapidly into tangible results, such as housing, schools, parking facilities, and improved transport, rather than letting them sit in bank accounts.

A primary concern for residents remains the high cost of living, particularly housing. Prague is noted for having some of the least affordable rental and owner-occupied housing compared to other European metropolises. Despite the city's financial strength, the slow pace of development—exemplified by the city's own developer failing to complete significant housing projects—continues to be a central political issue.
