Prague hospital project proposed at FNKV site
The Czech government is planning to construct a new major hospital in Prague, with the proposed site located within the grounds of the Královské Vinohrady University Hospital (FNKV). Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and Health Minister Adam Vojtěch indicated that a final decision on the project is expected by Christmas.
One significant aspect of the proposal is the potential classification of the facility as a military hospital. By transferring the land to the Ministry of Defense, the government aims to report the construction costs as defense spending to NATO. This move has faced criticism from President Petr Pavel, who warned against relying on “accounting tricks” to meet defense obligations.
A capacity study conducted by Advance Hospital Analytics is expected to be completed by the end of the year to determine the necessary number of beds, equipment, and personnel. The new facility is intended to replace aging infrastructure at the Bulovka, Královské Vinohrady, and General University Hospitals.
