Prague Integrated Transport expands all‑door boarding to 172 bus lines
After a year‑long trial, the all‑door boarding system for regional buses has been made permanent on 122 lines and will be added to 50 more, bringing the total to 172 routes across the Central Bohemian region, including three new lines serving Mělník.
The change has cut average delays on busy routes by four to seven minutes and improved timetable adherence, according to system spokesperson Filip Drápal. Fare‑evading rose modestly from about 2.5 % to just under six %, prompting a fine increase from CZK 1,000 to CZK 1,500 for on‑spot payments and to CZK 2,000 for delayed payments.
To support the new boarding method, fifteen additional ticket inspectors and four administrative staff will join the team. Plastic signage on bus fronts is being replaced with digital pictograms on the vehicle exteriors, and passengers may still purchase tickets from drivers if they board through the front doors without a pre‑bought ticket.
