Prague launches interactive “cool oasis” map as heat wave warning issued

The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute issued a heat and severe‑storm warning for 14 July 2026, advising residents to stay in shade, hydrate and avoid rapid temperature changes. In response, the city of Prague introduced an interactive map that lists drinking fountains, misting stations, shaded parks and swimming spots where people can find relief during hot days. The map, hosted at oazychladu.mojepraha.eu, was created by the city’s Environment Department, the Institute of Planning and Development and the tech firm Operátor ICT as part of Prague’s climate‑adaptation strategy. Deputy mayor for the environment Jana Komrsková said the tool helps citizens “quickly locate places to cool down,” while Operátor ICT chairman Luboš Kratochvíl highlighted its role in using municipal data for everyday safety. The service will be expanded with information on cool parks, air‑conditioned public buildings and real‑time micro‑climate temperatures. The warning also noted risks of overheating, dehydration, hail up to 2 cm, heavy rain (≈50 mm) and wind gusts of 25 m/s, with safety advice to avoid exposure to lightning and flying debris. Prague is simultaneously rolling out grants for green roofs, water‑storage tanks and other measures to mitigate urban heat effects.
