Prague proposes steel footbridge to extend Vltava cycling route
Prague has unveiled a study for a new steel suspension footbridge to extend the A1 cycling route near Roztoky. The proposed structure would span over a kilometer across the Vltava river, connecting areas where existing terrain—consisting of a railway line and a road—prevents land-based cycling paths. The design by Bridge Structures includes several lookout points for rest and access to the water.
In the Central Bohemian Region, similar infrastructure projects are underway. A separate 2 to 2.5-kilometer section between Roztoky, Úholičky, and Libčice has already received building permits, with estimated costs around 500 million CZK. This project, which may require construction via boats due to difficult access, is expected to be completed by 2029. Additionally, a bridge between Roztoky and Klecany is also planned.
