Prague protesters demand dismissal of human rights council members

Hundreds of protesters gathered at Jan Palach Square in Prague to demand the dismissal of three new members appointed to the Government Council for Human Rights. The demonstrators, including activists from Amnesty International Czech Republic, Prague Pride, and the Czech Women's Lobby, are protesting the appointments of Jakub Kříž, Taťána Kuchařová, and Daniel Black.

Human rights organizations argue that the appointees hold positions contrary to the council's mission. Critics claim the individuals hold transphobic and queerphobic views, advocate for restrictions on women's rights, or are linked to ultra-conservative organizations. Specifically, Jakub Kříž is criticized for his ties to anti-abortion groups, Daniel Black for advocating against gender-affirming care, and Taťána Kuchařová for her controversial stances.

The protest began with a minute of silence for the victims of the 2022 Bratislava shooting. Organizers called on Prime Minister Andrej Babiš to explain the selection process and replace the members with competent individuals who will protect, rather than restrict, civil liberties.
