Prague reinstates price regulation for taxi services

Prague has reinstated price regulations for traditional taxi services using taximeters. The new price caps are set at 42 CZK per kilometer and 7 CZK per minute of waiting time.

Magistrate spokesperson Vít Hofman stated the measure was taken in response to numerous customer complaints regarding disproportionately high transport costs. The city authorities determined that market mechanisms alone were failing to provide sufficient consumer protection. Following consultations with the Ministry of Finance, the regulation was implemented to take effect immediately following its announcement.

This move reverses a previous decision to abolish price regulation in October. While the regulation for alternative services like Uber and Bolt was removed by the Ministry of Finance early last year, this specific measure applies to classic taxi drivers. The city had previously increased the kilometer cap from 36 to 42 CZK in August, but subsequently lifted all regulations in late September.
