Prague reports significant decline in traffic accidents
Traffic accident statistics in Prague show a significant decline in reported incidents despite a growing number of registered vehicles. Last year, Prague recorded just over 11,000 accidents, which is approximately half the number reported in 2019.
Experts attribute this trend to several factors. Modern vehicles equipped with advanced safety assistance systems help prevent collisions, and improvements in road infrastructure have contributed to safer driving conditions. Additionally, the number of reported accidents has decreased because drivers are no longer required to call the police for minor incidents where no one is injured and damages are below 200,000 CZK; these are now handled directly through insurance companies.
Filip Hájek, Director General of the Technical Administration of Communications (TSK), noted that while registered vehicle numbers in the capital are rising, not all registered cars are actively driving on Prague streets. Common causes for remaining accidents include failure to maintain distance, driver inattention, and stress caused by traffic congestion.
