Prague residents protest new residential construction plans

New urban development plans in Prague are facing local opposition following the implementation of a new metropolitan plan. In the Šutka area of Prague 8, residents have formed associations and launched petitions to protest the construction of several residential buildings.

Locals argue that the development will lead to unwanted densification, loss of greenery, and a reduction in the quiet nature of the neighborhood. They also expressed concerns regarding the impact on local wildlife, including protected species such as jays and squirrels.

Representatives from the Institute for Planning and Development (IPR) stated that while the metropolitan plan aims to protect greenery, it does not prohibit all construction. They described the current plan as a compromise that allows for residential or multi-functional buildings up to four stories high in areas previously designated for sports and greenery.
