Prague residents protest railway infrastructure issues
Residents in Prague are raising concerns regarding the deteriorating state of railway infrastructure and increasing noise pollution. In Výtoň, approximately one hundred people gathered to mark the 125th anniversary of the local railway bridge, calling on Prime Minister Andrej Babiš to ensure its repair and preservation. The bridge, a historic riveted steel structure, is currently in poor technical condition, significantly limiting traffic on a vital line connecting Prague to western Bohemia and Bavaria.
Simultaneously, residents in the Chuchle district are reporting severe noise disturbances caused by trains passing through a railway tunnel. Following the reconstruction of the Braník Bridge, which added an extra track, the frequency of trains has increased significantly. Local inhabitants report that the vibrations and noise levels are high enough to rattle glassware and disrupt sleep. The Prague hygiene station has confirmed that nighttime noise levels measured in the area were nearly double the permitted limits. The Railway Administration (Správa železnic) stated it is investigating the issue and considering mitigation measures, such as anti-vibration mats.
