Prague to expand free bikeshare benefits for transit pass holders
Prague city council has approved a CZK 50 million public tender to expand and continue the city's bikesharing service. Starting in 2027, residents using the PID Lítačka transport app with a valid long-term public transit pass (minimum one month) will see their free daily limit doubled from two to four 15-minute rides. Total usage will be capped at ten free rides per week.
The new procurement plan aims to improve service continuity and address urban mobility challenges. A key feature of the new framework is a subsidy system that incentivizes operators to provide more bikes in peripheral areas of the city where public transit density is lower.
Since its launch in 2022, the program has recorded over 3.6 million rides and added approximately 100,000 users. The city intends to partner with up to three different operators to foster competition. Additionally, the expansion includes stricter rules to manage the use of public space and prevent bikes from obstructing pedestrians.
