Prague tram drivers win European Tram-EM championship
A team from the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) won the 20th annual Tram-EM competition, securing first place among European cities. Drivers Vendula Tmejová and Zdeněk Rychtář led the Czech team to victory, surpassing teams from Oradea, Romania, and Sofia, Bulgaria.
The competition tests precision and control through various disciplines, including reversing with a bowl of water to minimize spills, accurate stopping at platforms, obstacle navigation, and speed estimation. The event also featured a unique discipline called tram bowling, where drivers strike a giant ball to knock down pins.
To prepare for the championship, the drivers practiced skill maneuvers on unused turning loops, focusing on precise stopping points and profile estimation using traffic cones.
